Activities of the Institute are conducted through it's Headquarters at Calcutta and also through it's branches & Centers to fulfil the objective as above.

The Indian Institute Welding Journal, official technical journal of the Institute is published quarterly and carries articles on welding and allied technologies. Advertisement in this journal is a good way of communicating any message to specialized target audience in India.

Conferences, seminars, workshops, and tutorials are held regularly organized by branches. National Welding seminar held every year by rotation, is a meeting ground and a platform for exchanging practical problem-solving experience and a forum for observing the technological developments and its direction. The Institute encourages good quality papers for which various awards are given after evaluation by a technical committee. Many organizations had come forward to sponsor these awards.

Associate membership examinations were started in 1986 and are held regularly in different centers. Efforts are now being made to get AM-IIW recognized as equivalent to Engineering Degree.

Short courses on various aspects of Welding and allied practices, Inspection and NDT are held at various centers, sometimes jointly with other organizations or Institutes.
