The Indian Institute of Welding, Mumbai Branch was formally inaugurated on 2nd.February, 1973 by Mr.W.Burt and since then has been promoting the interests of professionals and industries associated with welding in the western region of the country. It is one of the most active among all the branches and has a membership of more than 600. It has its own office with an air-conditioned lecture hall. The branch regularly conducts technical lectures, refresher courses, workshops, industrial visits and seminars. This Seminar is the most important annual event of the IIW-Mumbai Branch.
THEME & OBJECTIVE
Welding Technology has made rapid progress in the last century and it is important to keep us in touch and update on this very vital process of manufacturing.
Today the four vital factors (Cost, Quality, Delivery and Communication) for survival in Welding industry are more relevant as never before. The worldwide recession and enhanced capacities of infrastructures equipped with latest manufacturing techniques added fuel to the fire. Demand of the day is to be "the cheapest, the best and the quickest".
This seminar is aimed to highlight about the advances made by Indian industry, their future and involvement in the Indian Welding Industry. Also it is aimed to enhance the participant’s knowledge on Welding Technology and to update them on the developments in this field.
This Seminar will bring together the Welding Professionals and technocrats to discuss the recent development and requirements in the field of welding and also share rich experience, knowledge and vision for the future.
Considering all the above aspects theme of the seminar is:
"Advances in Welded Fabrication" The seminar will cover the latest techniques used by the Indian industry to face the challenges due to the globalization in the field of welding and fabrication. Considering the present financial situation in mind, we have tried to make it the most reasonable and affordable cost.
Topics to be covered in the Seminar
6 or 7 Technical Papers are invited to be presented, from the following topics:
Welding Metallurgy
Welding in Power industry
Welding in transportation and infra structure
Applicable Codes and Standards for Indian industry
Welding in under water
Welding Quality control and NDT
Welding Economics
Case studies with advanced welding techniques
Welding Education, Training and Safety (ISO & EU certification)
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This seminar will be useful for all the persons related and involved in the welding field in general and Supervisors, Engineers, Managers & Senior Managers in particular engaged in:
- Design, fabrication, inspection of welded equipment and structures.
- Private, Public Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Organizations, Technical / Educational Institutions
- Dealers, traders and stockiest of welding and cutting products.
CALL FOR TECHNICAL PAPERS
It is proposed to present and discuss about 6-7 technical papers dwelling on the theme of the seminar followed by Panel Discussions.
Authors interested in presenting papers are requested to send full text of their paper on a floppy (MS-Word format) or two hard copies on A4 size bond paper neatly typed with double spacing, not exceeding 3000 words along with drawings, tables, photographs (B&W, glossy) to:

All accepted papers would be presented on Microsoft Power Point presentation. All authors should send their CD / floppy in Power Point presentation at least two days before the seminar.

The seminar will be held at The Multi purpose hall, training School Hostel, B.A.R.C Anu sakthi Nagar, mumbai 400 094 on Saturday, the 18th January 2003 from
9.15 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. ( Registration of delegates will start from 8.00 a.m )

MINI EXHIBITION
A mini exhibition is also planned, for displaying the welding related products, such as Welding equipments, welding accessories, welding consumables and books. SOUVENIR
A souvenir containing all the technical papers presented during the seminar shall be brought out. A few advertisements, which provide information about firms/products, shall also be published in the souvenir.
