IIW MUMBAI BRANCH ACTIVITIES One day course on "welding technology for shipbuilding and ship repair industry" As a part of The Indian Institute Of Welding, Mumbai Branch’s plan to promote the interests of welding professionals outside the Greater Mumbai region, IIW Mumbai branch conducted a one-day course in "Welding technology for shipbuilding and ship repair industry" at Goa. The course was conducted at the conference hall of Mormugoa Port Trust, Vasco, Goa, on 26th February 2000. The course was organised in close co-operation with The Institute Of Marine Engineers (India) Goa Branch and Mormugoa Port Trust, Vasco, Goa. This is the first time an activity of The Indian Institute Of Welding is being conducted in Goa region. The course content was selected keeping in mind the interests of number of large and medium sized ship building and ship repair industries in and around Goa. The subjects included

Dear Readers,
The first
issue of weldnet by the new managing committee is in your hands. It
gives us great pleasure to see the increased participation of the
members in various institutional activities inspite of their busy
schedule and tough travel conditions of Mumbai. We always try to see
that the quality and contents of the technical activities are
continuously improved to the taste of the participants. The
technological developments are very fast and we have to keep pace
with these. In the changed scenario we have to deliver the goods at
the cheapest price, in the shortest period and of the best quality.
The knowledge, interaction and communication can greatly help in the
growth of an individual & IIW is one of the many platforms to
contribute to this. Your active support, feedback and constructive suggestions are most welcome.

VOLUME 6, NUMBER 2&3, SEPTEMBER,DECEMBER 2002 For Private Circulation only Volume 6 Number 2 & 3 September & December, 2002 Quarterly News Letter of "THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF WELDING", Mumbai Branch From the Chairman’s desk Dear Readers, At the outset, I on behalf of the Managing Committee wish every reader MERRY CHRISTMAS & A VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY & PROSPEROUS NEW YEARAs the activities of our Central Council were affected very badly due to various factors, we could not concentrate to bring out the October issue in time. Therefore both the October and December issues have been merged and are being brought out now. I am glad to inform you that all the differences, misunderstandings and controversies of the Central Council have been sorted out at the initiative of our own Mumbai branch. We had organized a joint meeting with all the branch representatives and the members of the present Central Council and the previous one at the Hotel Shikara, Navi Mumbai in august,2002. Dr. BaldevRaj, the President – elect had chaired this meeting and a few constructive decisions were taken to put the IIW back on track. The Bangalore branch had come forward to hold the Council meeting of the present Central Council together with the previous Council members on 23.11.2002. It was well attended. Our branch was represented by the Chairman & Hony. Secretary of the branch besides, S/Shri K.M.Panthaki, Vice-President, N.K.Sarkar, Council Member and S.Shankaran, representing L&T Ltd., an ICM of the Central Council also attended this Council meeting. The salient points discussed in the meeting are given elsewhere in this Weldnet. Though we are facing severe setback in the Industry, it is heartening to note that India’s fiscal growth is under control because of buoyant revenue collections, as revealed by Shri S. Narayan, the Finance Secretary. We had plenty of activities for our members during the last six months, which are given elsewhere in this issue along with the future programmes. I shall appeal to the readers of the Weldnet to come forward to assist us by giving technical lectures in our Monthly Lecture programmes, Refresher Courses, Workshops; by advertising their products in our Weldnet and technical proceedings and sponsoring the events conducted by our branch. I am thankful to Shri N.K.Sarkar, one of the most senior members of the IIW and an Advisor of our branch committee for the assistance and guidance received for the preparation of this issue. Regards and happy reading, C.P.Sukhwal Chairman, IIW, Mumbai branch.

(Delhi) & IGCAR (Kalpakkam) International Welding Congress in India, 2005. Initially our branch was allotted the International Welding Conference in 2003. But due to non-functioning of the Central Council and delayed AGM of the H.O in January,2003, the IWC,2003 was cancelled. Instead, the above International Welding Congress was allotted to our branch which is scheduled in February,2005. Since this is an event of the International Institute of Welding , it is a prestigious event in the calendar of our Institute. The Theme of this event was decided as : "Frontiers of welding science & Technology". One workshop shall also be held concurrently with the participation of the overseas delegates. Membership Criteria The IIW has four different classes of individual membership e.g Fellows, Members, Associate Members and Associates. The first three categories of members can become LIFE members after paying Rs. 1500/- plus the transfer fees at one time only. Retired Members of these three classes above 60 years of age are eligible to become LIFE MEMBERS on paying a sum of Rs. 500/- at a time. This is great incentive to our senior members who had helped us all the time.
